MILDRED'S PERFECT COOKING

Mildred was my Grandmother, she passed away in 2019 at the ripe age of 96.

My Grandmother was a home economics teacher and an absolutely incredible cook. She loved any excuse to cook or entertain.

When she passed, we thought we had lost all her recipes, but we realized my Grandfather had meticulously saved them all in his 1980s Word Perfect program.  So after much ordeal (and figuring out what the heck a DOS program was) we recovered the recipes and I have been meticulously typing them up and cooking through them.

Like a true 1960s mother, nothing in this blog is healthy, everything has been tried and tested with butter and margarine (or oleo as she would write it!). I'm sure there are creative ways to make it healthy and I might offer suggestions, but just go in knowing that this is good for the soul but not good for the waist.

I didn't grow up cooking, I let my Mom and sister cook and I let my Grandmother's cook for me.  Working on these recipes and this blog and the accompanying cookbook have felt like my Grandmother reaching back through time and teaching me to cook.  I hope that you find these recipes and stories to be as inspiring to you as they have been to me.

So I present to you this, this collection of 1960s housewife tested and approved casseroles and food from the heart, cooked by me!  Welcome to a world of oleo and lard, I think you'll like it.
